Dominion: Hoist the Sails! includes not only new kingdom cards but also trackers to keep track of the effects of certain cards. Furthermore, this
expansion introduces persistent cards, which remain in play for one more turn and can thus yield even more benefits for the active player.
In Dominion, you aim to build the strongest possible deck during the game so that you have the most points at the end. The cards in your deck cycle from your draw pile to your hand, and then to your discard pile. When your draw pile is empty, you shuffle your discard pile to create a new draw pile. Each turn, you may perform 1 action and make 1 purchase. The various cards in your hand help you with this or can increase this number. Money cards form your capital for that turn. You cannot do anything with point cards during your turn, but you will ultimately need them to win the game.
Dominion: Hoist the Sails! can only be played in combination with Dominion or a standalone variant of it (such as the first edition of Dominion Intrigue). However, this expansion can be combined perfectly with all other (future) expansions for Dominion.
